Property code: OC-COTTAG

Enjoy the best of all worlds at this dog-friendly cottage – surrounded by countryside, it’s close to the coast too and has a two-bedroom, two-bathroom layout ideal for sharing with friends or family.

Located in a lush Exmoor valley, this pretty stone cottage is one of three created by a skilful barn conversion – if you’re planning a bigger-group getaway, the neighbouring properties may be booked too. Original character remains courtesy of exposed stonework, beams and low ceilings, but the interior styling is contemporary with USB points available in all rooms. Step inside and you’ll find an attractive living room with comfortable sofas, a Smart TV, DVD player and Bluetooth speaker, plus an open-tread staircase to the first floor. The kitchen/diner houses all the essentials for your self-catering stay while laundry facilities are in a shared utility room close by. When it’s time for bed, two first-floor rooms offer countryside views and a choice of sleeping options – there’s a pretty double bedroom and a spacious twin room with its own en-suite bathroom, plus a separate family bathroom to complete the convenience. Enjoy the sunshine and country air from your own outdoor seating area. Beyond, there’s a shared grassed area with picnic tables, and a further meadow/grassed area which is ideal for exercising a canine companion.

If you enjoy walks, you’ll be spoilt for choice here: the cottage is less than a mile from the National Trust-owned Hunters Inn in the Heddon Valley, a deep wooded river valley reaching down to the sea. As you approach Heddon’s Mouth you’ll hear the Atlantic Ocean; the South West Coast Path here is spectacular – head east and you’ll see Woody Bay, Valley of the Rocks, Lynmouth Bay and Foreland Point stretching out before you. In the opposite direction, the peaceful bay of Combe Martin is a 5.5-mile drive away, while the sandy surfing beach at Woolacombe is 15 miles. Between the two, Ilfracombe (13 miles) is fast-gaining a reputation as a cultural and culinary centre.

  • 2 bedrooms - 1 double, 1 twin
  • 2 bathrooms - 1 en-suite with a bath and hand-held shower and WC, 1 with a shower over the bath and WC

Fantastic accommodation with comfortable beds and all utilities and utensils which could be needed. Loved the quiet location, providing easy access to numerous footpaths from the doorstep, and tourist attractions within a short drive.

The Cottage at the Old Farmhouse is situated in a wonderful position a short walk from a spectacular section of the coast path, and just above the beautiful Heddon Valley. And yet it is extremely peaceful and unspoilt. The cottage itself is very well equipped and comfortable, and particularly well set up for dog owners. The owners were very friendlRead morey and welcoming, and gave us some very good recommendations. All in all, an excellent place for a stay in a beautiful and unspoilt part of the country. Hide
