Description
In a unique position overlooking the sea at Woody Bay, this historic Manor House sits within its own 26 acres of extensive grounds nestled into the tree-covered Exmoor hills and with its own private outdoor swimming pool. The views here are jaw dropping. Ancient woodland falls down almost to the sea and cliffs rise sharply up out of the water to become the highest in England. The craggy coastline is spectacularly beautiful, peaceful and unspoilt; little can be heard apart from the crash of the waves and the call of the birds. A steep path from the Manor leads through manicured grounds to a sand and shingle beach. A sparkling waterfall plays down the rocks and it is rumoured that German submariners would sneak ashore under cover of darkness and replenish their supplies of fresh water here during WWII. Rock pools, visiting seals, and a part natural swimming pool make Woody Bay a magical place to take a picnic and spend time on a fine day. Exhilarating walks wind through Exmoor National Park and over National Trust headlands and the South West Coast Path passes close by. A particularly scenic route follows the coast to Valley of Rocks and on to the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth. Horse riding and fly, lake and sea fishing are all available nearby.
The Garden Suite is a single storey ground floor wing off the main house and has its own private garden. Fully-enclosed, the small garden is ideal for pets and for those who want direct access through the gate to the swimming pool. There is a comfortable living room and a separate kitchen/diner with patio doors leading out to the garden. One double bedroom and a compact shower room (with sloping ceiling) complete this neat and convenient suite.
Outside Martinhoe Manor has landscaped gardens, sweeping lawns, mature, colourful borders and meandering paths which melt into the Exmoor landscape beyond. East-facing, the morning sun lights up the front terraces and in the evenings the sun sets over the sea in a spectacular show of colour. A walled garden encloses a swimming pool and patio for exclusive use of the guests at the Manor. There is also a communal games room with a pool table and a very useful laundry room.
