This delightful and characterful fisherman’s cottage is nestled in one of the oldest streets of the picturesque fishing village of Appledore. Surrounded by colour washed cottages and with no vehicular access, this part of the village has great charm with character pubs serving excellent food, art galleries, restaurants, chandlers and interesting shops all within the surrounding narrow lanes.

Less than a hundred yards from the waterfront, the cottage is furnished in a bright, contemporary style whilst retaining the original character of this former fisherman's home. Deceptively spacious and laid out over three floors, you can see Instow beach from the top-floor bedroom. Ideal for enjoying holidays with family and friends the cottage, offers an attractive and cosy beamed lounge with a wood burner in a stone fireplace for comfort in the cooler seasons. A separate dining room with ample space for relaxed dining. There is a good-sized double bedroom and bathroom on the first floor and a further two twin bedrooms are on the second floor, all reached by low, curved staircases (restricted height). For relaxation and al fresco dining, the cottage also offers a fully enclosed walled patio with garden furniture.

The cottage is part of Appledore's seafaring history and a trip to the local North Devon Maritime Museum in the village itself offers an interesting insight into the area's past. In the summer, there is a foot ferry across to the pretty village of Instow which also has a range of great places to eat and drink as well as a dog-friendly beach. The Elizabethan port of Bideford with its many shops, cafes and restaurants and the sandy surfing beach of Westward Ho! are both within 4 miles making this A great base for enjoying a seaside break or for exploring the dramatic coastline and spectacular countryside in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The cottage is a good location, was clean and well maintained. The stairs are very steep particularly the run leading to the top floor. Even though we are not disabled we found it difficult and this should be mentioned in the details. The log burner was welcome but there was not enough fuel for two nights, no paper to light the kindling and no matcRead morehes. Hide

Beautiful cottage in an amazing fishing village. Had the most relaxing week with 2 adults and 2 children. Lots of options for food and local shops and cafes. The crabbing was a wonderful way to spend the evenings. The nearest beach at Westward Ho! is fantastic and theres some amusement arcades and rock pooling to entertain the kids.
