This elegant first-floor apartment is set within a charming country residence, built in 1752. Having been transformed into four stylish apartments and two cosy cottages, the accommodation makes the perfect base for a holiday in North Devon. Up to four guests can make themselves comfortable here within two bedrooms, with stunning views of the countryside and sea, and a variety of shared leisure amenities available on site.

Inside, the lounge/dining room features a beautiful ornamental fireplace and large windows; make yourselves comfortable on one of the large sofas to enjoy the views or take a seat at the big wooden dining table. The kitchen has all you could possibly require for a self-catering stay. And when night falls, there are two restful bedrooms to choose from – a double and a twin – as well as an additional bed in the lounge for alternative sleeping arrangements. Outside, the shared 69-acre grounds surrounding the property offer plenty of room for children and pets to play, and an outdoor seating area near the covered swimming pool is great for lounging in the sun during the summer. The on-site leisure facilities are an added bonus for all seasons, too.

Just 2 miles away from the apartment is the bustling town of Barnstaple, offering a variety of cafes and restaurants for a spot of lunch or coffee. For a unique experience, why not take a trip to the 1930s cinema to watch the latest releases or live theatre performances? The picturesque village of Braunton is 4 miles away, with a range of boutiques to explore. Or, for a day at the beach, Croyde Beach, Woolacombe Beach and Lee Bay are all within 12 miles.

We had an excellent stay at Upcott house over summer holidays. We stayed at Fortescue which is an apartment (felt like a house really) on the first floor. We were a family of 4 from Liverpool with kids aged 7 and 5. The main attraction was the swimming pool which the kids enjoyed most days. There is also a games room with a full size snooker table Read moreand a playground where we had a few games of cricket. In the evening there is a bar, if you fancied a drink. The owners Mark & Denise live onsite and work tirelessly to make sure the guests have a relaxing stay. Good selection of supermarkets in Barnstaple and the main beaches- Westward Ho, Saunton Sands & Woolacombe beach within half an hour drive. If we lived closer, we would visit every school break! We were happy to be able to spend a few days of vacation in the historic house on an exceptional property with the remains of a historic landscaped garden. It is a dog friendly establishment and it was nice to be able to buy eggs from their own hens.
