Property code: OC-BUTTON

This lovely character cottage is located in the village of Northam between the pretty fishing village of Appledore and the beach and surfing resort of Westward Ho! Having been recently decorated using a bright nautical theme, the property is ideal for couples and families looking for a quiet base to enjoy the delights of both the Devon coast and the countryside.

Entering the cottage and on the ground floor there is a good-sized attractive lounge/diner with a glazed door to a two-tier garden with seating on a decked area and then steps up to a fully enclosed, terraced patio and lawn with a further bistro set – a well thought out and lovely space to enjoy breakfast or relax after a day exploring the area. Whilst the kitchen is compact, it provides all you will need for dining in. On the first floor, two pretty bedrooms - a double and a twin - continue the nautical theme, and a practical family bathroom completes the internal accommodation.

The cottage is less than half a mile from local shops, pub and restaurants as well as the nearby leisure centre, gym and swimming pool. Guests are also just a mile and a half from the Northam Burrows Country Park and Nature Reserve and a similar distance to the surfing beach and resort facilities at Westward Ho! where you can see the iconic pebble ridge, mess about in the sea or have a bit of fun in the arcade or on the crazy golf course. The colourful fishing village of Appledore with its galleries and great eateries is also just 1.5 miles and, in the summer, you can catch a foot ferry across to the pretty village of Instow. Cyclists and walkers will love the easy access to the Tarka Trail and the South West Coast Path while for those who would prefer not to use the car, there is very good public transport from the village.

We've stayed at a lot of different cottages in Devon. This was probably the smallest and we have 2 grown up children. The cottage was quite cold and damp until we controlled the central heating. There was a strong smell of damp when we arrived which disappeared with heating and a plug in airfreshner - damp needs to be addressed as part of maintenanRead morece. Parking behind the church is no longer free, but we did manage to find free parking in Cross Street and neighbouring roads. We enjoyed our stay and had all we needed for our stay. We loved the garden! We like the location - we know northam, westward ho! And Appledore well so everything was accessible. Thankyou for a lovely stay. Hide

Good location in the centre of town - shops and pub nearby. Easy to walk to Westward Ho! and Appledore and close to main roads through the area. Should be noted that if you need to have your car very close to your accommodation that wont be possible, but car park is less than 5 mins walk away. Cottage itself is cosy - kitchen has all you need, heatRead moreing works fine and bath/shower were as per normal in this size of property (shower above bath). Didnt use the garden as was autumn but looked nice. Owner was helpful in responding to queries by text message. Hide

Stayed 3 years ago and suggested an in door airer would be beneficial, as clothes line outside not the best and no where else to dry clothes. Hall light not working. Really could do with a new shower head. But overall everything else was fine and would stay again.

Our first stay in Devon was a lovely one. A beautifully located cottage, with lots of individuality, and we were blessed with the nice weather. Chippy and Chinese both recommended, Westerd Ho beach was fab, and really enjoyed Hartland Quay. Lots of lovely walking/running in the area too. Thanks for a great stay, would definitely return.

The cottage was ideally situated in a lovely little village - there was a local shop, pub, chinese takeaway and a fish and chip shop. The beach was a very pleasant walk away (about 1 mile) and the cottage was a great base for visiting other seaside resorts.
