Torquay and Paignton Cottages

Torquay is a traditional but thriving seaside town well known for its Mediterranean climate and iconic palm trees and has everything you could possible need for a perfect all year-round Devon holiday or short break.  The main town is centred around the busy fishing harbour and international marina which is lined with bars and cafes enjoying spectacular views out to sea.

Walk alongside the promenade to Torre Abbey Sands and swim of the sandy shore or relax in one of the trendy eateries overlooking the beach. The beach gets its name from the 800-year-old Torre Abbey the which is short walk  from the beach and now is an Arts and Cultural hub for the region.

A little further along the coast and set a mile inland is the picturesque thatched village of Cockington with Grade 2 listed Cockington Court right in the centre it’s a great spot to get away from it all.Head east from the harbour along the South West Coast path and take in some of the most stunning coastline in Torbay. Pass by Meadfoot beach with its colourful beach huts to Oddicombe beach and its historic cliff railway which links it to Babbacombe up on the cliff.

The traditional town of Paignton is a popular seaside destination for all ages. The main beach is long and sandy, perfect for building sand castles and splashing around in the shallow waters. Buy an ice cream and sit in a deckchair on the seaside green alongside or visit the traditional pier and enjoy the old-fashioned slot machines inside.

Further along the coast Paignton has two further beaches, Goodrington a large beach with water sports  on offer and a large water park adjacent it and Broadsands another lovely beach in a bay with safe bathing and ample parking.

The town has its own theatre hosting a wide selection of shows and also plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants to choose from. Why not catch the steam train and go back in time travelling through the rolling Devon countryside to Kingswear, opposite Dartmouth on the River Dart. Or jump on an open topped vintage bus and travel to the market town of Totnes and them hop aboard a paddle steamer to Dartmouth.
