The woodland gardens are also quite spectacular, tumbling down the hillside towards the Dart estuary. Blackpool Sands (6 miles) is one of the jewels in the South Devon crown. Its turquoise waters and the scented pines that run behind the beach give the whole area a touch of the Mediterranean, and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d been transported to the South of France.
